Our Founder

85_VickiVicki J. Zion has a BS in Elementary Education from Ball State University, and an MS from Purdue University. She holds teaching certificates in Indiana, Illinois, Massachusetts, Oregon, Nevada, and Washington. Her teaching career spans more than 27 years, more than 12 in her own classroom, 10 years consulting, tutoring, and delivering workshops, and 5 years substituting at all elementary grade levels. She has taught in Life Skills classrooms at pre-school and elementary school levels. When teaching mainstreamed-learning-disabled students, she coordinates her efforts with other special needs professionals to ensure each student’s success. Mrs. Zion has used the concepts of Diversified Instruction, and all 3 tiers of the Response To Intervention (RTI) concept throughout her career.

During the 2004-2005 school year, Mrs. Zion completed a long-term substitute assignment for Carson City Schools, teaching 3rd grade at Mark Twain Elementary. She also completed various daily substitute assignments across the district in grades from Kindergarten through 5th grade. During the 2005-2006 school year, Mrs. Zion taught 4th grade at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic School in Carson City, NV. Since 2006 Mrs. Zion and Personal Best Educational Services has been relocated to Washington where she serves as a 5th grade teacher at Lockwood Elementary School in Bothell, WA, and operates Personal Best Educational Services, LLC.

Mrs. Zion also provides seminars and workshops to teachers, parents, and students on a variety of helpful topics that encourage a teamwork approach to successful learning. Seminars have been provided at LDA conferences and for Snohomish School District teachers. Workshops can be scheduled for interested parties (see Services or Contact Us pages).

Mrs. Zion founded Personal Best Education Services in 1994 to address the needs of students in her community in Massachusetts, later transferring the business to Oregon, then to Nevada, and finally to Washington, where the business entity changed to a limited liability company. She has been trained in the Slingerland specialization for the classroom of the Orton-Gillingham Method, and is certified by Slingerland as a staff teacher/trainer. She is qualified to administer and interpret screening tests that are used to identify language-learning strengths and weaknesses, including Specific Language Disability. She has tutored students in Reading, Writing, Science, Social Studies, Math, ESL (English as a Second Language), Study Skills and Organizing for Learning Success throughout her career.

Mrs. Zion is the mother of two college students who benefit from her long experience as a teacher.
